Having unwavering focus and diligence toward one’s goals is the highest form of self control.
We live in the most distracted era in the history of mankind. Every company, business, and app is after one and one thing only — our attention.
These corporations spend millions of dollars to make their product as addictive as possible so that we are glued to them ALL THE FREAKING TIME.
And guess what?
It’s working fabulously!
– When was the last time you were bored and didn’t reach out to grab your cellphone?
– How many hours do you spend mindlessly consuming content on the web?
These companies have turned people into an instant-gratification zombie (a.k.a Ingrambie) — hungry for a quick rush of dopamine every second of the day.
We have forgotten what it’s like to sit down and focus on one thing for a period of time.
We have forgotten the joy of being in a state of flow, where our intelligence and emotions collide to open up a whole new world.
Heck, we can’t even take a dump without taking our cell phones with us.
It’s a disease, really.
We live on the surface, afraid to immerse ourselves deep in the ocean.
We are bombarded with continuous distractions and are robbed of our most valuable asset — time.
Bruce Lee said, “The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus.”
That’s why, the ability to look over the facade that media creates and being able to put in deliberate and unwavering focus toward your goals and mission is the highest form of self control you can have.
